August 2024 reading
In progress - but might be October before finished…
Updated 28 August 2024
- The Furies by John Connolly
- SAS: Rogue Heroes by Ben McIntyre
- The Fairfax Redemption by Christopher Shevlin
- They Broke Britain by James O’Brien
Off to a crime fiction start for the month. The Charlie Parker series is now up to volume 22 and I have to confess that I have read them all. Connolly is not always the tightest of plotters but that is as close to a criticism as I can make. There is a reason that I have, along with many thousands of people, have read them all. And, to be fair, The Furies is more like two shortish novels and is all the better for it.
I am also reading Crime and Punishment by, of course, Dostoevsky. (I am reading the Michael R. Katz translation.) I’m reading it along with Jeremy Anderberg’s Substack - so it will be paced over about seven weeks and Jeremy posts an update each week about the chapters that have just gone and some background. It’s how I read War and Peace and I can recommend the experience.
